Inspired by my high school geometry teacher’s one-eyed cat, I brought Captain Derp Cat to life. Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I created a GIF of Captain Derp Cat waving to the viewers. This is my very first animation attempt. My biggest challenge was adjusting the paws and shoulders smoothly. I also had to be careful with the minor details of the paw prints to maintain their positions.
I started by drawing different versions of Derp Cat to determine which one to animate. Eventually, I settled on one with his paw in the air. I then redrew the cat to make it more accurate. Third, I image-traced it on Adobe. I cut the parts of the hand and duplicated them into different layers to adjust them to create movement. Lastly, I used the timeline in Photoshop to make them into GIFs.
