These are both live and master copy drawings focused on human anatomy. I completed two levels of this class over two semesters. I faced challenges in capturing the essence quickly while striving for perfection, which limited my focus on value during the first course. Studying muscular and skeletal forms improved my understanding, allowing me to draw a generalized figure in just 20 minutes. Now, with more time to focus on value, my grasp of human figures has deepened. Additionally, this was my first time experimenting with soft pastels, and I fell in love with their ability to create smooth and rough textures while blending colors effortlessly. This process enhanced my understanding of layering and mixing colors to render different skin tones more realistically, which proved helpful as I moved into level 2.

The life studies come from three hours of class sessions. I used a viewfinder for composition and placement. I used vine charcoal to create a grid and head measurement (if applicable) to sketch out the pose and ensure proportion. Then, I lightly added initial value stages in the medium required and adjusted the form as needed. Finally, I refined the drawing, stepping back every few minutes to see how to improve it. Throughout, I sought feedback from my professor and peers for fresh perspectives and to catch any oversights
